The Course
1
Year one, taught by John Cooke, consists of learning the theory behind Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as well as learning how to take a comprehensive case history.
2
Year two, taught by Sang Mann, is focused on the practical aspects of acupuncture, point location, needling, moxibustion, and cupping.
3
Year 3, taught by Dr John Bourke, emphasises the integration of the Chinese model of health and disease with Western Medicine. This is a consolidation year, with detailed clinical work and comprehensive teaching on Western Medicine as it interacts with acupuncture practice.
The Course
The course is run over three academic years, one weekend a month, from September to June.
For graduates wishing to apply for membership of a professional body in Ireland, the full three year course is required. Students with a level 8 or higher degree in health sciences (e.g. physiotherapy, radiology, dentistry, medicine, nursing)may opt not to take the third year, although the integrative medicine as we teach it is a unique aspect of the course, and very valuable to all practitioners.
On completion of the course, a Licentiate in Acupuncture is awarded. The assessments take place during the year, and are a mixture of examinations, case studies, practical observation and online review.
